Overview

Tanzania is home to a rich diversity of tribes, each with its unique foods, but there are also common dishes enjoyed throughout the country. One of the most famous is the national dish, which is widely popular and represents the heart of Tanzanian cuisine. This tour is designed to offer a deep dive into the everyday cooking practices of Tanzanian people, from the way we shop for ingredients at local markets to how we prepare and cook our meals.

Throughout the tour, guests will be given the chance to select two or three dishes to cook, with suggestions for different types of food to choose from, allowing you to experience a range of Tanzanian flavors. We'll also explain many other typical dishes that you’ll encounter in the country. Some of the most popular dishes include Ugali (a staple food often recommended as a must-try), Ndizi za Kupika (cooking bananas, a popular dish), Makande (a common food in northern Tanzania), Chapati (a type of pancake), Nyama Choma (barbecue-style meat), Mbogamboga (a mixture of fresh vegetables), Kachumbari (a salad that can be spiced based on preference), and Loshoro (a traditional dish from a famous tribe in Arusha).

The tour begins at one of the local markets in the city, where guests will join the group to shop for fresh ingredients used for the day’s cooking session. After gathering the necessary items, you’ll take public transport to the designated cooking location, where the hands-on cooking experience takes place. This tour also offers a great opportunity to discover the town of Arusha while immersing yourself in its vibrant culture.

Our team is available to assist guests with any questions or suggestions both before and after the tour, ensuring a smooth and informative experience. Whether you’re a food enthusiast, a culture lover, or someone interested in exploring the everyday life of Tanzanians, this tour offers a genuine, interactive experience of Tanzanian cuisine.
