The name Chefchaouen derives from the Tamazight word meaning "the horns," referencing the two mountain peaks that frame the town. As you explore, you’ll be captivated by the vibrant medina with its winding alleys, blue and white houses, beautifully painted doors, and intricate wrought-iron windows. A walk through the old town reveals lively squares and shady corners, providing a glimpse into the daily life of this remarkable place.
Historically a holy city, Chefchaouen remained closed to non-Muslims until 1920, preserving much of its original character.
