From Muscat: Wadi Shab Bimmah Sinkhole Full-Day Tour

Der Ausflug zum Canyon war großartig! Leider hielt sich der Guide nicht an den vorher mitgeteilten Treffpunkt und stand 500 Meter weiter entfernt, sodass wir 10 Minuten im Gewimmel nach ihm suchen mussten. Insgesamt waren wir 11 Passagiere, der Fahrer und eine Begleitperson im Kleinbus. Abgesehen davon verlief alles reibungslos, und das Schwimmen durch den Canyon war ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis. Danach gab es in der Nähe ein landestypisches Mittagessen mit einer Flasche Wasser. Während des Ausflugs wurde immer ausreichend Wasser bereitgestellt. Beim Sinkhole hatten wir aus Zeitgründen nur einen kurzen Aufenthalt, aber niemand wollte dort noch schwimmen.

Walking on the slippery rocks may not be suitable for everyone, so if you plan to swim in the Wadi, I recommend buying non-slip shoes and renting a life jacket, as you will need it in the cave at the end. It would be a better experience if they offered a swim in the sea instead of visiting the Sinkhole.

It was absolutely fabulous! Our tour guide, Muhannad, was simply the best. He was calm, polite, and incredibly helpful at every step. As an expert navigator, he led us safely to the cave pool. He also offered us delicious Omani sweets and bread to try, which were a lovely touch. The day wouldn't have been the same without his expertise and presence with the group. Muhannad is the best guide in Muscat! He’s incredibly knowledgeable and makes sure everyone is well taken care of and enjoying the experience. At one point in the cave, I felt a bit panicked due to the narrow space, but he guided me through it and made sure I was okay the whole time so I didn’t miss out. A very, very impressive trip to Wadi Shab! The nature we walked through was breathtaking, and swimming in the crystal-clear water was amazing. It's worth noting that the hike to the swimming area can be quite challenging in some parts (over rocks, etc.), but the effort is definitely worth it. In the afternoon, the Wadi gets very busy, so starting the tour early in the morning is a great idea to avoid the crowds.

This was one of the most beautiful natural sites I’ve ever visited! As always, our guides, Rashid and Mahmoud, were friendly, well-organized, and made sure we had the chance to buy anything we might need, like swim shoes. Wadi Shab is truly stunning. Just keep in mind that you need to be a fairly confident swimmer, as the water is 8 meters deep in parts. If you’re comfortable swimming 20 meters unassisted, you’ll be fine. Some of the rocks can be very slippery, so just take your time. Our guides made sure to help everyone, and Mahmoud went above and beyond to take great photos for us!

We were in Oman for 1 day as part of a cruise, and the tour fully met our expectations. Our guide, Mahmood, was also the driver and was wonderful—he was a great ambassador for his country. He took great care of us all day, was punctual, and very helpful. During the hike, he paid attention to all members of our group and helped other tourists in difficult places. The tour should only be undertaken by people who are sure-footed, as it can be slippery in some areas (brightly polished stones or stones covered with algae). You can only access the cave with the waterfall by swimming through a very narrow gap. We had booked a minibus for ourselves (9 people), which was well-maintained and modern. The included lunch was tasty and plentiful (rice, chicken, hummus, salad…). We can highly recommend this tour!

The hiking trail to Wadi Shab is not ideal for those with a fear of heights. Certain sections of the trail are quite slippery, as the stones can be slick. Thankfully, our guide, Jamal, was very supportive and offered assistance at the tricky spots. Communication with Jamal and the transfer arrangements were excellent. The landscape itself was truly stunning. Installing railings along the trail would greatly enhance safety and provide comfort for those uneasy with heights. Proper hiking boots are strongly recommended over sneakers for this trek.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience, but I have a few suggestions: In April, the weather gets quite hot, so it’s best to start as early as possible to avoid hiking during the hottest hours. Wearing water-resistant, closed-toe shoes is essential; something like Crocs works well because sneakers will get wet, and open-toe sandals might lead to injuries on the rocky paths. Additionally, it’s not ideal for small children unless you’re physically capable of carrying them through narrow and tricky sections. The hike is relatively short—we completed it in about an hour with two kids aged 5 and 6. The Wadi and caves are breathtakingly beautiful and absolutely worth the effort.

We were picked up on time, and the guide was excellent, providing clear explanations throughout. Cold water was available, and the trek to the Wadi was fantastic. We spent a good amount of time there before having lunch, but by the time we reached the sinkhole, it was quite late, and it didn’t appear as striking as in some photos. Overall, it was a great day!

The pickup at the port entrance was poorly managed, as the driver arrived 15 minutes late to the agreed meeting point, appearing grumpy and uninterested. The guide also seemed unprepared. After picking everyone up, he had to stop to buy water and refuel, which should have been done beforehand. Apart from a brief introduction, he barely spoke during the drive to the first stop, engaging only with the guest in the passenger seat. Whenever he mentioned the plan, it was often changed without explanation. On the return trip, he drove recklessly, later revealing it was to reach his evening prayers on time—understandable, but this could have been communicated to the group. Despite these issues, it was an interesting day with many new impressions. However, the driver made little effort to ensure the day was as enjoyable as it could have been.

Our tour guide was fantastic—friendly, fun, and full of knowledge about the area. Communication was great, and we were provided with refreshments and snacks throughout the day. Wadi Al Shab was absolutely stunning and definitely worth visiting. Lunch was decent, though not particularly memorable. On the way back, we stopped at the sinkhole, which was nice but very crowded. We also had the chance to feed camels and made a pit stop to enjoy Arabic bread, Karak tea, and Omani crepes. Overall, it was a well-worthwhile trip!

This experience is absolutely worth it, especially since the service includes hotel pickup and lunch. To fully enjoy the tour, it’s essential to have rock shoes, a swimsuit, a change of clothes, and a waterproof bag for your phone. Without these, it’s challenging to participate. Although I can swim, I found it difficult to stay afloat in fresh water, so I strongly recommend using the life jacket provided at the start of the tour to avoid fatigue. The water is deep, and swimming skills are necessary. Our guide, Abdullah, was excellent—very attentive and happy to answer any questions or share insights. On the way, there are opportunities to purchase rock shoes for 2 OMR and waterproof phone bags for 2.5 OMR (as of December 15, 2023). I highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to witness the incredible natural beauty that Oman has to offer!

The trip was well-organized and ran smoothly. Our tour guide was excellent, ensuring our safety throughout the journey, especially in the water. Lunch was good, and the car was comfortable. Regarding the destinations, Wadi Shab is undeniably beautiful, but it was overcrowded with tourists. The atmosphere felt more like a noisy swimming pool party, with adults shouting and diving, which detracted from the serene ambiance of such a significant heritage site. As for the sinkhole, it was a bit underwhelming—it’s essentially just a hole.

This is an amazing spot, and I absolutely loved it! However, for anyone considering going, be aware that the "hike" to the wadi can be quite challenging, especially if you're on your own. I noticed some people bringing toddlers along, which I wouldn’t recommend due to the tricky terrain. Certain parts can be slippery, so you’ll need to stay focused. If you’re not confident in the water, I’d highly suggest using a life jacket. If you enjoy a bit of adventure, this is definitely an experience you need to try!
