Muscat: Daymaniat Islands Snorkeling Trip

Set off on a thrilling snorkeling adventure to the pristine Daymaniat Islands and dive into Oman’s vibrant underwater world, teeming with colorful marine life and surrounded by crystal-clear waters.

I am a diver, and just the day before, I had been on the islands. I went snorkeling so my wife could explore them. It was wonderful to encounter turtles and witness the vibrant marine life. However, the beach was quite crowded, which is typical during the high season on 30/12. Unfortunately, the area where boats anchor lacked buoys, leaving the seabed damaged by anchors, which was disappointing. On the brighter side, we visited the back beach after climbing a hill, and although we didn't spot turtles, the variety of colorful fish was stunning. Later, we moved to another spot, which was equally breathtaking. It offered a fresh perspective on the coastline, aside from diving. The staff was incredibly attentive and kind. For those coming from Seeb, like us, the navigation was shorter compared to Muscat, which is great for anyone sensitive to boat travel. Overall, I’m happy I went snorkeling and enjoyed the experience thoroughly.

Everything was fantastic. The trip to the islands provided just the right amount of time to swim, snorkel, and observe the turtles. The final stop on the island was a highlight, allowing us to swim and explore the rocky areas on foot. The only thing I would suggest for improvement is having a guide accompany the snorkeling activity to point out interesting sights and lead the way. As it was, we only had the boat captain, and we managed everything on our own.

We had an amazing day with Capt'n "B" and his crew. Our adventure started with a taxi ride we spontaneously arranged with a family at the cruise terminal, costing around 25 OMR per person for the round trip. The journey to the jetty took about 40 minutes. From there, we headed to a fantastic snorkeling spot where we were thrilled to see 10 turtles. It was a treat to be the first boat to arrive, though 7-10 other boats with many guests showed up later. After about 30 minutes, we moved on to a larger island with multiple beach areas perfect for snorkeling, hiking, swimming, and relaxing under umbrellas. The island became busier as the morning went on, but it remained enjoyable. Onboard Capt'n "B," we were treated to delicious sandwiches, chilled melon, sweets, water, and juice. At the snorkeling spot, we had the chance to observe countless majestic turtles that remained completely undisturbed by our presence. Additionally, we saw a variety of colorful fish, both large and small, including pufferfish. What we loved most was that the turtles and fish were not baited with food, unlike some other tours. It was fantastic to set off so early, with our guide ensuring we were the first to arrive at each spot. The bays were completely empty, and our group of 13 had the water all to ourselves. As we were leaving, seven full boats arrived, so we definitely timed it perfectly! We saw an incredible number of turtles—around 20 at each of three spots, plus a few more elsewhere. Waking up early was absolutely worth it. The trip to the harbor from Muscat took just 25 minutes, but on the way back at midday, we encountered a massive traffic jam. I felt bad for those just heading out at that time! The trip included sandwiches, snacks, and plenty of drinks, and we had more than enough time in the water to fully enjoy the experience. It was such a lovely tour, and we were able to book it locally without any issues. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing time and highly recommend this tour! One of the standout aspects was Captain Sunny—despite having 12 people on the boat, he ensured everyone felt safe and well cared for. As a less confident swimmer, I was especially grateful that he personally guided me, holding my hand and taking me to the best spots to swim with turtles and marvel at the underwater wonders. The snorkeling equipment and boat were in excellent condition—clean and new. The food on board was decent, and Sunny frequently reminded us to stay hydrated and have a bite to eat. If there’s room for improvement, it would be to reduce the time spent at the second stop, as the boat became quite shaky, and some passengers experienced seasickness while waiting. That aside, it was an exceptional experience!

This was the best snorkeling company I’ve ever experienced! Sony was an outstanding captain who went above and beyond to ensure we had an unforgettable day. One of the first things he emphasized was respecting wildlife and nature, asking us not to touch or get too close to the animals—a first for me, even after snorkeling in over 90 countries. A big thank you for that thoughtful approach! Sony initially searched for whale sharks, but unfortunately, we didn’t spot any. Next, we snorkeled with turtles, and I saw more than 30 in three different groups—an absolutely incredible experience! Lastly, we snorkeled in search of sharks; while we didn’t see any, the corals and diverse fish species were stunning. The refreshments were plentiful, including water, juices, sweet and savory snacks, and chicken and vegetarian sandwiches (vegans can request the falafel sandwich without mayo). The guide was amazing and spotted whale sharks, so we stopped to swim with them for a while as well. We saw around 20 turtles together, and I also spotted a few more on their own, bringing the total to about five. The turtles were not afraid and would sometimes swim right up and brush against you. Our guide really knew the area and exactly where to look for the whale sharks. He was also very courteous and professional throughout the experience.

The snorkeling experience in the shallow, clear waters of "turtle city" was absolutely wonderful! I’ve never seen so many green turtles surrounding me—front, back, next to, and even underneath me. When we saw the small boat without safety jackets, no toilets, no cabin, and with 30 people onboard, we didn’t feel comfortable or safe. We decided to return to our hotel as a result.

The islands themselves were beautiful, and the snorkeling was great, but the trip was poorly organized. We were supposed to meet at 1:25 for a 1:30 departure, but we were still waiting at the dock until 2:00, apparently "waiting for someone." Then we had to stop for fuel, which added another 20 minutes of delay. As a result, the boat ride to the islands was faster than expected, with lots of jarring as we slammed into the waves to make up for lost time. At the first stop, we waited for another half hour as two people were missing. Once they arrived, we learned they would be staying on the island, but the communication was very poor. There was only the boat driver, who had limited English, and no one seemed to know what was going on. After another stop, the delays meant the sunlight was already fading, and at the last stop, the visibility was poor because the sun had set too low. The trip back was horrendous, with rough seas and violent jarring, and it was completely dark by the time we returned. Overall, it was a very frustrating experience.

It was a nice excursion where we got to see corals and schools of fish. We also had the chance to see turtles and dolphins, which was fantastic. However, the area is heavily impacted by tourism, especially in December, with about 12 boats around. While the islands themselves are beautiful, they’re quite touristy. Unfortunately, there was a lack of information or guidance throughout the trip.

It's best to catch the earlier boat to Daymaniat, as it gets busy very quickly. Overall, I enjoyed the trip, although we didn’t see any turtles—probably not the right season for them. The guides were friendly, and I felt well taken care of. I would definitely do this again!

It was a beautiful half-day trip. We saw 4-5 turtles swimming around us, which was incredible. I especially appreciated that our guide gave clear instructions about not touching or disturbing the turtles. The only downside was that the tour and the spots we visited were quite crowded. While there’s plenty of space to move around in the sea, it still felt a bit busy. Overall, it was a great experience, and I highly recommend it!

The Daymaniyat Island snorkel trip offered stunning views and the opportunity to explore vibrant marine life. The snorkeling itself was enjoyable, but I was a bit disappointed with the itinerary. There were only two stops—one for an hour and another for 1.5 hours. More stops would have greatly enhanced the experience. I also noticed other companies had tents on the beach for food and rest, which provided additional comfort for their guests, but unfortunately, this wasn’t available with the company I booked. There was also no clear way to identify the tour operator at the pier, as there were no signs or indications, which made the start of the trip a bit confusing. There's definitely room for improvement in the overall guest experience.

Finding our boat inside the port was a bit challenging, and some signs on site would have been helpful. Once on board, the guide gave us a clear explanation of the excursion and made sure we had drinks and snacks available throughout. The experience with the turtles was beautiful, though we did have a bit of confusion when another boat from the same agency arrived nearby. We then moved to try to spot a whale shark, but only a few of us were successful. From May to October, the beaches on the Daymaniat Islands are closed to allow the turtles to lay their eggs, so going ashore isn’t possible during that time.

The activity was good overall. The guide was very attentive, and the islands were absolutely beautiful. They provided plenty of water and snacks. However, the area where we could see the turtles was heavily contaminated with oil from the boats, which not only harms the ecosystem but also makes it harder to see the turtles and other marine life due to the polluted water. Hopefully, they can address this issue before it becomes too damaging. While the activity did offer everything as described, it felt quite expensive for what it was, especially considering the large number of people on a single boat.

Arriving at the jetty was a bit confusing, as there was no clear indication of which provider was organizing the groups. However, the snorkeling spots were stunning. Johan, our guide, was great—he kept checking in with me to make sure everything was okay and that I was enjoying myself, especially since I was traveling alone. A truly beautiful activity! The Dimaniat Islands are incredible, and swimming with the turtles and fish was such an unforgettable experience. We also visited one island on foot, which was great because it was safe for the turtles, though it’s not always open for walking. I recommend the evening tour, as it was less crowded—we were only four on the boat, and there was just one other boat at the islands. It was a bit expensive, but prices for tours to these islands tend to be similar or higher. Booking in advance is a good idea. Even though it was during Ramadan, they still offered us snacks, toasts, and drinks. It was also okay to wear a bikini, though I’m not sure if that depends on the guide. Overall, a fantastic experience!

The group tour was quite interesting, and we were lucky enough to spot whale sharks, blacktip sharks, and turtles. Unfortunately, the tour started almost an hour late as we were waiting for some participants, and a couple had accidentally joined our boat. However, there was plenty of time for snorkeling and some relaxation or a short walk on the beach. The turtle spot we visited didn’t have many turtles, but some participants had gone to the other side of the last island on their own and found tens of turtles. I do wish I had gone with them! Overall, it was an excellent morning, despite the sea being a bit rough. Hussein and Emo were great guides—helpful, friendly, and always there to assist. The first snorkeling spot was incredible, and we saw six turtles within the first few minutes. The second stop was at a beautiful beach, but the visibility for snorkeling had deteriorated a bit. There were plenty of snacks and water available throughout the trip, and I felt safe the whole time. I’d definitely recommend this as a great morning activity. Just a tip—if you’re prone to seasickness, be sure to take some medicine before the boat ride, as it takes about half an hour and the swell can be quite strong.
