Our guide, Baruk, was very knowledgeable and friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. We went not really knowing what to expect, but we left with so much more knowledge than we could have ever imagined. If you're planning to visit this historic site, I highly recommend taking the tour—you’ll get so much more out of it. As mentioned before, yes, it’s a bit of a road trip, but I personally love road trips as it gives you the chance to see so much more of the beautiful country. Everyone at Crowded House was great—they responded quickly to all my messages and helped us arrange special pick-up and drop-off from our hotel on the Asian side. While the experience itself was overall enjoyable, there were some issues that made it less than perfect. We had booked a private tour and paid extra for it, but upon arrival, we were grouped with about 10 other people, which was disappointing. I had to reach out to GetYourGuide to address this concern. However, when we arrived in Gallipoli, the situation improved. We were separated from the group and placed in a private room with an excellent guide, Eldar, who was very helpful and made the experience much better. After the visit, we were returned to the same bus with the original group. The company later explained that the tour in Troy had been private, but they didn’t refund the extra money for the bus situation at first. After further discussion, they issued a credit for the extra amount paid, which was appreciated. Overall, the tour itself was good, but the initial confusion and mixed-up arrangements left something to be desired.

My husband had always wanted to visit the place where part of classical history unfolded, so we decided to make the journey from Istanbul to the Troia site. The trip takes about 5 hours by road in a van, plus a 15-minute boat ride and a few minutes by bus. Was it worth it? For my husband, definitely! For me, the travel time felt too long for such a short walk around the site. I’d recommend either flying or spending at least one day in the region, as it is very beautiful. Seeing the Dardanelles and imagining the Greek fleet passing by is an exciting experience, and it really takes you back in time.
