On 25 April 1915, 16,000 Australian and New Zealand troops landed at Anzac Cove, facing their first combat. By nightfall, 2,000 had been killed or wounded, marking the start of a tragic campaign.
Anzac Cove on Gallipoli Peninsula was the landing site of ANZAC troops on 25 April 1915. The 600m beach served as the main base for Australian and New Zealand forces during the 8-month campaign.
Arıburnu, at Anzac Cove's north end, was where Australians first landed on April 25. The cemetery, covering 1,270 m², holds 259 soldiers from various nations, including 5 special memorials.
The Respect to Mehmetçik Memorial is in Eceabat, Gallipoli Peninsula, Çanakkale. Situated at Albayrak Heights near Anzac Cove, it honors Turkish soldiers within the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical Site
Johnston’s Jolly Cemetery, near Chunuk Bair, named by Col. G.C. Johnston, holds 181 soldiers, including 39 Australians. Captured on April 25, 1915, its battle trenches can still be visited.
The Nek, a narrow mountain pass on Gallipoli, holds a cemetery with 326 graves, 5 identified, from the 8th and Light Horse Regiment. Most soldiers fell on August 7, 1915, during fierce battles.
