Die nächsten Tage erkundeten wir dann eigenständig die Stadt mit Metro, Schiff und Straßenbahn.Tipp: Bargeld für die Eintrittsgelder mitnehmen! However, we were disappointed when she took us to a lunch spot off the beaten path that turned out to be outrageously expensive—$300 for a meal of mostly appetizers for three adults. We’ve had better and larger meals for $100 in Istanbul, so it felt like we were being overcharged without a warning. She also expected us to pay for her meal. We had intended to offer as a nice gesture, but she assumed we would cover her portion. Later, she mentioned taking us to see how rugs are made, saying we could buy one if we liked but there would be no pressure. Instead, we ended up walking into a showroom with a full-on sales pitch, which wasted 45 minutes as they tried to sell us $3,000 rugs. Sadly, the second half of the day felt more like a business transaction than a tour.
